Descrição do livro

The forest had always been a place of whispers, a cradle of secrets older than the tongue of man. Between the towering oaks and their veils of moss, the air was thick with the perfume of damp earth and distant rains. Travelers seldom dared to enter this part of the wild, for it was said that those who strayed too deep into the labyrinth of trees would hear voices—soft at first, then commanding—and that those who listened too long would never find their way back.
On the cusp of early spring, when the frost had retreated but warmth had not yet settled, a solitary wanderer came upon the hidden glade. His name was Elandir, though the few who knew him in the nearby villages called him the quiet man with a restless heart. He had been walking since dawn, guided not by road nor star but by a sense that something in the wild called for him.
The glade revealed itself suddenly, as though the trees had conspired to part. Sunlight spilled into the open circle, pooling golden light across tangled grass and blooming wildflowers. At its heart lay an object that did not belong to the wilderness.
It was a mirror.
But unlike any mirror made by mortal hands, this one stood upright without support, framed by a wreath of ancient bronze that had not rusted despite the years. The frame twisted with the shapes of vines and beasts, yet no smith’s hammer could have beaten it into such living detail. The surface of the mirror shimmered, not with glass but with something like liquid silver, restless and alive.
Elandir’s breath caught in his chest.
He approached slowly, his boots crushing the grass beneath him. The glade was utterly silent, as if the birds themselves held their songs in reverence. The mirror, tall as a man and wide as a door, pulsed faintly with light. It seemed to breathe.
For a long moment he did not dare look into it. Instead, he studied the frame—the bronze vines curling like serpents, the faces of wolves and stags peering from the metal, and the faint runes etched along its base. His eyes lingered on the words, though he could not yet read them.
Finally, he lifted his gaze to the surface.
His reflection met him—or rather, something that looked like him. But the eyes of the reflection glowed faintly, silver against silver, and the mouth curved into a smile that he did not wear. A shiver ran down his spine.
