Descrição do livro

The morning broke in a hush of pale light, diffused through a veil of clouds that stretched across the mountains like a worn tapestry. Dawn here was unlike dawn in the cities the protagonist had left behind—it was not abrupt, heralded by clattering wheels or the hum of restless lives. Instead, it unfurled slowly, gently, as though the sky itself were reluctant to rouse the wilderness from its slumber.
Elara stood at the cliff’s edge, boots firm on the slick stone, and let the silence surround her. It was not the silence of emptiness, but of abundance: the trill of unseen birds hidden in thickets below, the occasional rustle of leaves as a breeze slipped between them, and, beneath it all, the muted roar that had led her here—the sound of water. She closed her eyes and tilted her head toward it, like a listener straining to catch a secret.
The sound rose and fell, pulsing like a heartbeat. It was distant but steady, an invisible thread winding through the canyons below and tugging at her chest. She had first heard it three nights ago when she camped at the ridge further north. It had carried on the wind like a low voice, persistent enough to blur the edge of her dreams. When she woke, she could not shake it. Some part of her insisted the sound was not simply water crashing against stone, but something older, something alive.
Now, as she stood before the descent that would take her into the emerald depths, she wondered if she had made a mistake in following it.
The Path Into the Canyon
The trail down was treacherous, a ribbon of rock and earth carved centuries ago by feet long forgotten. Moss clung to its edges, slick as polished glass, and roots jutted across the way like the twisted fingers of something buried and restless. Elara steadied herself with a staff she had cut from an oak two days prior. Each step felt like a negotiation, a cautious bargain with the land to let her pass unharmed.
The mist thickened as she descended. It seeped into her clothes, clung to her eyelashes, and curled against her cheeks with damp fingers. Vision narrowed to no more than twenty feet ahead, and even that blurred at the edges. The world outside the mist ceased to exist—sky, mountains, memory—all swallowed in gray. Only the path and the sound of the waterfalls remained.
Sometimes the roar softened, like a whisper pressed close to her ear, teasing her with words she could not quite decipher. Other times it thundered, shaking through her ribs, reminding her that what awaited below was immense, perhaps perilous. She tightened her grip on the staff and kept moving.
