This eBook is addressed to programming beginners that want to quickly learn to program in PHP. The first chapter presents the working and runtime environment installation for Windows (the XAMPP package and a useful code editor) and includes some useful tips to work easier with PHP. Afterwards, the first, easiest PHP script is explained, and the reader is guided to test its functionality.
In the following paragraphs, the main principles of PHP programming are described, such as: the use of variables, constants, different datatypes, basic functions, arrays, different loop structures and conditional instructions, user defined functions etc.
In the next chapter, the use of HTML forms is explained, together with the mechanism of gathering data from the user and using this data within the PHP script. Different form tags are explained with many examples.
Then, a very important application is presented, i.e. the database connectivity of PHP, more precisely the interface to MySQL databases. In this chapter, many useful examples are described, such as inserting lines into tables, listing table contents and database queries (searches).
This book is the result of 10 years of teaching experience at the University "Politehnica" from Bucuresti and Transilvania University of Brasov, Romania. I tried to write this eBook in such a manner that is very easy to read, with many easy to understand examples.
