This book is an academic research paper on the Northern Territory Emergency Response (NTER). The NTER was a set of legislative measures that took place in 2007–2008, which, although racially discriminatory, were enacted by the Australian Federal government to tackle the issues of sexual abuse of Aboriginal children in the Northern Territory and problems related to this, including alcohol and drug abuse, gambling, and the use of pornographic material.
It also further supports key premises of the author’s first book Human Rights and the Climate Crisis, including the need to question our common cultural understandings and assumptions, and within that, the importance of not just formal recognition of Indigenous rights but actual substantial respect for those rights to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
