From the earliest traces of human organization, mutual aid has been a silent yet crucial constant in the survival and evolution of societies. Before institutions, economic systems, or complex political structures existed, a fundamental notion already existed: no one survives alone. However, beyond its institutional evolution, the impulse to help retains its original essence: a human response to inequality, suffering, or exclusion. The difference lies in the fact that, in the contemporary world, this impulse has been channeled through complex mechanisms, including Grants, donations, and structured financial resources that seek to generate social impact.

Despite the existence of thousands of foundations, international organizations, and funding programs, access to these resources is not equitable. Paradoxically, those who need support the most are often the ones who face the greatest difficulties in obtaining it. The lack of clear information, the use of technical language, the complexity of application processes, and the absence of support constitute real barriers that exclude numerous individuals, groups, and organizations.
In many cases, the problem isn't a lack of resources, but rather the inability to access them. This phenomenon creates a silent divide: while some actors dominate funding mechanisms, others remain on the sidelines, not for lack of merit or social impact, but due to a lack of knowledge or tools.
Faced with this reality, an urgent need arises: to democratize access to information and the processes that allow access to these resources. Democratizing doesn't mean oversimplifying or eliminating evaluation criteria, but rather translating, clarifying, and making accessible a system that, in its current state, is opaque to many.
This manual is built precisely for that purpose. It's not aimed exclusively at specialists or large, established organizations. It's designed, above all, for those who don't know where to begin; for those who have a legitimate cause but lack guidance.
Throughout its pages, the reader will find diverse paths to understand, to interpret, and to act. Because knowledge, when it becomes accessible, transforms into a tool for inclusion.
In this sense, this book aims to fulfill a dual function: to be a technical guide explaining how the world of grants works, and at the same time, an empowering tool that brings these resources closer to those who have historically been excluded. Opening access to social financing is, ultimately, a contemporary way of continuing the story of human aid. A story that is still being written.
