WHAT YOU NEED AT HOME

Kitchen and recycling-bin materials, almost entirely: salt, sugar, sand, food colouring,
jars, paper, straws, tape and coins. A cheap digital thermometer and a kitchen scale are
the only two things worth buying, and both get used all year. An adult handles anything
hot, and the safety page says so plainly.

Set in Andika, a typeface designed for young readers, and measured at a Grade 7 reading
level on every page. Six hands-on investigations of about half an hour each. Full answer
