The little men have enthralled boys since the early 1700’s. In modern times adult men and women have been captured by their charms. Anne S. K. Brown started collecting them in the 1930’s, during a yearlong honeymoon in Europe. Jonathen Winters, Robin Willams, Bruce Springstein, H. G. Wells and Malcolm Forbes all had collections of Toy Soldiers. This work, Toy Solider Armies, uses over seventy color photos to show all aspects of one of America’s largest collections of toy soldiers. The book also gives the history of toy soldiers. It covers flats, paper soldiers and crude dime store metal troops as well as the more normal 54 mm (1:32) toys whose size was set in the 1890’s. As a bonus, the work shows how the readers can make and paint their own little soldiers.
