The midnight between centuries (English Edition)

Edinburgh, present day. When archivist Clara Ashworth opens a cedar box in the basement of the National Museum of Scotland, she expects another piece of miscellaneous Victorian ephemera. What she finds instead is a pocket watch that doesn't tell the time — it moves through it.
Pulled back to October 1885, Clara arrives in a city she has spent fifteen years studying but never truly known: coal smoke and gas lamps, cobblestones slicked with autumn rain, and the vast cantilever arms of the Forth Bridge rising slowly above the Firth. There she meets James Hartley — a quietly brilliant bridge engineer who responds to the impossible fact of her arrival with the same methodical calm he applies to everything else — and Alistair Greaves, the dying clockmaker who built the watch and is not entirely surprised to learn where it has been.
But Clara has brought something with her from the archive: a record of the twelfth of November, 1885. And what it says about James means she cannot simply observe history. She has to decide whether to change it.
The Midnight Between Centuries is a love story told across a hundred and thirty years, about the things we build to outlast us, the distances we cross for the people who matter, and what it means to belong to more than one time at once.
