Jesus Christ is not currently available to write or provide further clarification and insight into his words shared 30 – 33 CE. Until the discovery of the Gospel of Thomas, Egypt, December 1945, the only known words from Jesus were those found in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Constantine and Rome’s new Christian Church banned the Gospel of Thomas, killing any and every “heretic” found with a copy in their possession.

Constantine’s and his new Church’s efforts resulted in the Codex Sinaiticus and Codex Vaticanus being created 330 CE, 360 CE. The reality of 4th century Bible literature is, written text was largely non-existent. Until the invention of the printing press in 1440 CE, any and all versions of Bible text were hand written, very rare, very expensive, very sacred, and often held in secret to prevent theft. Only the richest churches and bishops could afford a complete gospel or even, smaller portions of text from Old and New Testament.

Current evidence is the first recorded words of Jesus Christ were recorded in the Gospel of Thomas, a book banned by Rome and Rome’s Church. While Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John were selected by Constantine’s Holy Roman Catholic Church, the Gospel of Thomas was deemed anti-Church and banned. Fortunately, the only remaining copy of Thomas escaped Constantine’s and Rome’s Christian Church’s centuries of editing, redacting, embellishing, and even adding new Jesus quotations.

Estimated time for the first completed version(s) of each gospel is, Gospel of Thomas, 50 – 140 CE, Gospel of Mark, 65 – 80 CE, Gospel of Matthew, 80 – 100 CE, Gospel of Luke, 80 – 130 CE, and Gospel of John, 90 - 120 CE. Given Jesus was crucified ~33 CE, evidence indicates Thomas was written less than 20 years after Jesus’ death. The first version of the Gospel of John was written nearly 60 years after Jesus’ death; the disciple named John the Beloved would have been roughly 90 years old. History fails to reveal the true identity of these five authors; it remains highly improbable that one of the original 12 disciples any of the surviving Gospels.
Jesus’ frequency of word use, the number of verses, is provided for each of the five Gospels, M, M, L, J, & T. Jesus favorite word of the +2,600 words researched and quotations counted was the word “you”. Jesus uses the word “you” 301 times in Matthew, 112 times in Mark, 270 times in Luke, and 240 times in John. Jesus uses the word “YOU” 46 times in the 113 Sayings of Thomas; *YOU (301, 112, 270, 240, 46). Jesus Christ never uses the word “GRACE” in M, M, L, J, or T; *GRACE (0, 0, 0, 0, 0).

This Jesus Dictionary presents four Jesus quotations for each Gospel, M, M, L, J, and T. Quotation selection was based upon this editor’s efforts to provide Jesus’ most important and priority messages.
