It is designed to give readers a taste of the types of exercises that are included in these two larger books. Since the exercises in this book are taken from the these larger books, please do not buy this book if you already own the other books. There are 30 exercises from each book. The first 20 exercises in each chapter are generally easier than the later exercises in each chapter.

The goal of each exercise is to find the best first move, together with the subsequent moves that lead to an advantage for the superior side or a checkmate, depending on the chapter. There is only one clearly best first move for each exercise. However, there may be several moves for the second and later moves that are equally good, and all of these choices are acceptable as solutions. Detailed solutions are provided for all the exercises, and they have been computer-checked by several strong chess engines for accuracy.
