This book is written to share my Bridge learning experience and present it in a easily digestible form. If you have never played Bridge, welcome to this world of Social Fun! If you have never touched a deck of cards, please get hold of a fresh new deck and touch and feel the cards and glance through all 52 of them. You’re ready to learn Bridge! After reading just 5 pages (Sections 1 and 2), you will be on your way to playing Bridge.

We have provided tear-out “Cheat Sheets” (3 sheets, double sided) that you can use in different bidding scenarios. With the Cheat Sheets at your side, you’re ready to start playing Bridge! As a beginner, looking at Cheat Sheets makes bidding easy. Cheat Sheets codify a lot of information in your bids and allow you and your Partner to exchange information about each hand. With some practice at the Bridge Table, you will rarely need to look at the Cheat Sheets.
I had a dream! After reading the 5 pages in Sections 1 & 2, you couldn’t wait to get your hands on a deck of cards, got together with three other like-minded people that you enjoy socializing with, and played a few hands of Bridge. Perhaps some savory snacks and coffee (or tea) and some good conversation made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Having played some hands of Bridge, you’re now ready to learn how to “Talk Bridge”!
In Section 3, we describe in detail 5 of 9 basic Bridge conventions: Stayman, Jacoby Transfer, Texas Transfer, Blackwood and Gerber. We also briefly describe 3 more basic conventions: Strong 2, Weak 2 and Weak 3. A curious (or impatient) reader, with a sneak peek at Section 4.8.1, will quickly learn (Takeout) Double, the gist of the final basic convention. Knowing the basic conventions, you’re now ready to start speaking Bridge. You and your friends can be immersed in real Bridge conversations!
